When a new school is constructed, how do you maintain equity? Provide other schools with the same program and a fresh look! The Nelsen Middle School Modernization provided technology and program upgrades, and cosmetic improvements. The new metal roof is the most radical visual change. Flat roofs were also replaced.
Interior work included a new computer lab, reconfigured shops, modernized life skills rooms, and selective team teaching stations. All classrooms were given a fresh look with new chalk and tack boards, carpet, and fresh paint. Technology improvements included data, phone, and intercom systems. building controls and fire alarm system. A unique feature of the project was the construction of a garden courtyard with pond for hands-on science studies.
